In 1975, Teddie Kossof opened his namesake salon in the then-uncharteredNorthfield suburbofChicagowith a unique vision: Create a concept salon with multiple beauty experiences under one roof. Almost 40 years later, the salon has evolved into a veritable emporium of beauty, style and wellness, offering various services including hair, spa, fashion, alterations and fitness to name a few.
We chatted about the salon's success with Teddie's son, co-owner and salon director, Alan Kossof, who built his career in the family salon quite literally from the ground up. "I grew up immersed in the salon's culture, sweeping floors, folding towels and cleaning mirrors, " says Alan. Now, "there are never two days that are exactly the same. The beauty business is a lifestyle and each day, you can have an amazing discovery of a day. That's something to look forward to."
The success of a salon is directly tied to the culture you create with your staff. It''s about how you treat your employees. We have a very low turnover and it's because my father never believed in putting creative limitations on his staff.
Keratin Complexlistens to salon owners and gives us a voice. Our partnership allows us to give our clients premium services insmoothingand color, thus providing another avenue to build revenue.
To work with your family every day is a gift. I am constantly learning from myfather- the energy and passion he possesses is contagious.
